I’m guessing you’ve seen those athletic AcroYoga types in the local park throwing each other around… on their yoga mat.

And you might have thought (like I first did): what an impossible, let alone dangerous, kind of training that is!  ANd also where do I find an active enough partner yoga enthusiast!

Well, movement classes in general can be tricky. The body is sensitive, and though we all want to be a high flyer in life, every person needs time to learn the necessary skills in order to feel safe and competent in their partner yogic journey.

But take it from me: with the right yoga teacher, acro yoga can be one of the most transformative physical practices out there!

So here it is: 3 reasons why trying acroyoga could, and perhaps should, be next up on your to do list with your chosen person.

1) AcroYoga Strength training for strong bodies.

Developing a strong body is important for everyone. If you want that sweet-looking six-pack, to improve your various other skill levels, or simply want to foster a healthy, flexible spine, then acro yoga is a perfect choice.

Whether it’s the inversion flyer practices, therapeutic backbends, body awareness or flexibility training transitions, acro yoga will allow your training program to keep your entire body healthy and strong.

Strength training can also be deeply healing, as a strong body almost always makes for a strong mind!

Indeed, especially some of the most dynamic sequences trainable within yoga acrobatics will allow you to experience the potential strength of the human mind like never before…

2) AcroYoga gives a sense of Community

Of all the forms of yoga, acro yoga is much more hands on; allowing for a healing touch within the partner experience. The simple act of being part of a community is one of the most healing practices there is even; with communication and ceremony (as well as partner acrobatics) being an inherent part of the practice.

While this yogic form does not have the largest community it certainly has the most passionate.

The necessity for building trust within contact yoga forms such as this one means that one’s appreciation of yoga and its growing communities worldwide is thoroughly appreciated every step of the way.

Verbal communication is a big part of this aswell as the basic principle of trust communication

Thre is an inherent focus on sequence of movement that is unlike other yogic forms..

Acro yogis are dedicated to keeping their body safe and strong, just as much as the bodies of others…

3) Acro Yoga is a Super Creative Experience!

There are no such roots of acroyoga, as there are for other yogic disciplines. The history of acroyoga is a short one, and yet this is also what makes it so special!

Unlike other yoga forms, there are thousands of people evolving the practice of acroyoga in their own unique and creative ways.

4) Basic acro yoga.

The art of yoga, in this respect, is how it can adapt to and embrace modern trends, technologies and techniques; meaning every acroyoga pose is subject to quirky tweaks and improvements over the years.

But at its core is really all about the mid/body connection element.

Acroyoga teachers are some of the most talented and radical movers out there, taking advanced acrobatics truly to the next level; including some especially wild acrobatic flying techniques also!

It’s refreshing to see acroyoga developing on its own terms, and offering a training mat to anyone and everyone all over the world.

So get your hands dirty,  start working on a deeper backbend and try some acroyoga basics to begin with, and see what kind of high flyer you too can become!

The best part being its a shared experience!
